In June 2025 Winemag.it accompanied the wine sector toward a phase of assessment and review, on the eve of summer and with the harvest now on the horizon. Wine News and International – News & Wine marked a moment of synthesis between what emerged in previous months and the first operational decisions called to impact the short and medium term. A month marred by the fire at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Tuscia.
One of the central themes of June was the mid-year assessment of the wine sector. Winemag.it analyzed market trends in the first six months of 2025, confirming a picture of still weak consumption, uneven exports and strong selectivity in distribution. Wine news highlighted how some denominations show signs of resilience, while others are beginning to suffer more evidently from the effects of the structural crisis.
FOCUS ON THE 2025 HARVEST IN ITALY AND ABROAD
June was also the month when the focus shifted decisively to the 2025 harvest. Spring weather conditions, irregular and often extreme, fueled cautious forecasts on production, with marked differences between territories. Winemag.it reported the first estimates, concerns about quality and the debate on how to combine volume reduction and economic sustainability for wineries.
On the political and institutional front, June saw an intensification of the debate on crisis distillation, storage and intervention tools. The news conveyed the image of a sector demanding rapid responses, but also of institutions grappling with limited resources and positions that are not always aligned. The role of Regions and Consortia returned to center stage in managing surpluses and planning supply.
COMMERCIAL STRATEGIES OF WINERIES
Ample space was also dedicated to the domestic market, with a more in-depth analysis of Italian consumer behavior: less frequent purchases, greater attention to price and a progressive shift toward occasional consumption. Winemag.it highlighted how this scenario is affecting the commercial strategies of wineries, forced to revise price lists, formats and channels.
The International – News & Wine section completed the picture with news from the main producing countries and reference markets. June confirmed that the wine crisis is global, but that responses vary: from France, engaged in production containment, to extra-European markets, where competition on price and identity is becoming increasingly fierce.
Overall, June 2025 emerged as a month of review and preparation, in which the sector acknowledged that the second half of the year will be decisive in understanding whether the measures adopted will be sufficient to reverse, or at least stabilize, the negative trend.
