From May 1 to 3, 2026, the third edition of SUBER – Suvereto Wine Festival returns to Suvereto. At its heart is a phase of change affecting the entire Val di Cornia territory. The revision of the production regulations with the new Suvereto Docg marks a step forward in defining wines with more identity and recognizability.

The evolution concerns not only production but also the positioning of the Alta Maremma area. The goal is to strengthen wine tourism and the economic and cultural value it can generate. In this context, the new local generations—winemakers, restaurateurs, artisans, and administrators—are called upon to build a shared path between identity, sustainability, and competitiveness.

FOCUS ON THE NEW DOCG

The theme is at the center of the masterclass “Suvereto Docg, a new story,” scheduled for Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3 at 3:00 PM. Twelve guided and comparative tastings to analyze the impact of the new production rules on the profile of the denomination’s wines.

THE FESTIVAL KICKS OFF

Inaugurating SUBER on Friday, May 1 from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM is the SUBER Aperitivo in the gardens of the Suvereto and Val di Cornia Wine Consortium. The program features live music, local wines, and finger food, with views over Val di Cornia. The Festival is organized by the Consortium with the patronage of the Municipality of Suvereto.

THE VILLAGE BECOMES A WIDESPREAD CELEBRATION

On Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, the Festival hits its stride. The medieval village transforms into a widespread route of tastings, workshops, sports activities, talks, show cooking, and performances. Shops, workshops, wine bars, and restaurants remain open until evening, involving visitors and the local community.

Among the initiatives are “Calici con Vista” (Glasses with a View) at the Consortium headquarters, the AperiChiostro and Vinyl Music in the cloisters of San Francesco, and “Chiostro in tour,” with winemakers and artisans side-by-side along the village streets. Sunday also features the show cooking/talk “I eat, therefore I am: cooking as the intangible heritage of Italians.”

THE ROLE OF THE COMMUNITY

“SUBER was born as a time and place where wine returns to being a common language for those who seek not only quality in the glass but also stories, relationships, and belonging. The Festival is the result of the vision and commitment of an entire community that has decided to look in the same direction, recognizing itself as a single, pulsing ecosystem. From shops to artisans, from restaurateurs to young winemakers, everyone is doing their part with a proactive and inclusive spirit, welcoming visitors certainly with a glass of our wines, but also with a collective narrative of our territory,” explains Daniele Petricci, president of the Suvereto and Val di Cornia Wine Consortium.

BETWEEN WINE TOURISM AND THE TERRITORY

The program also extends outside the village, with outdoor activities among the rows of vines: walks, guided excursions, e-bikes, and winery visits. The Festival thus becomes a gateway to Val di Cornia, between vineyards, Mediterranean scrub, the sea, and Etruscan sites. The three days coincide with the May 1st long weekend, an opportunity to discover a lesser-known area of Maremma. In just a few miles, you can go from the vineyards to the coves of the Gulf of Baratti, from local thermal baths to the archaeological area of the Baratti and Populonia Archaeological Park.
