Promoting social inclusion and responding in a structured way to the labor shortage in the wine sector. With this objective, a pilot project was launched in 2025 in the province of Treviso, born from the needs that emerged in the Dialogue Table promoted by the Diocese of Vittorio Veneto. The initiative involves the Protection Consortia of Prosecco DOC, Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG and Asolo Montello Wines, the trade associations CIA Treviso, Coldiretti Treviso, Confagricoltura Treviso, Confcooperative Treviso and the Employment Centers of Veneto Lavoro.
The project aims to create a shared and transparent model for matching labor supply and demand, capable of meeting the needs of companies and offering employment opportunities to people currently unemployed, through training and professional qualification programs.
MAPPING COMPANY NEEDS
The first phase involved mapping the needs of the Treviso wine sector. Nearly two hundred companies in the area participated in the survey. The data collected shows that over 30% of businesses use seasonal workers. A further third of companies, which today rely only on internal resources or contractors, would be willing to integrate their workforce with properly trained external personnel.
The average need identified is 4–5 people per company, with concentration during harvest and pruning periods, activities for which it is more difficult to find qualified labor. Companies also emphasized the need for reliable and trained personnel, indicating among the most requested soft skills work organization, teamwork and problem solving.
THE ROLE OF VENETO LAVORO AND TRAINING
Based on the results that emerged, Veneto Lavoro has activated its free pre-selection and supply-demand matching services to support wine companies in their search for personnel. In parallel, with the involvement of trade associations and training centers, technical and language training programs are planned. The courses will be aimed at both workers and job seekers and will include modules on safety, vineyard management and cellar activities, with the aim of facilitating qualified and informed entry into the sector.
SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY AND SHARED RESPONSIBILITY
The initiative is part of a broader framework of actions related to social sustainability promoted by the wine system, in line with a shared responsibility among businesses, institutions and local communities. The Protection Consortia of Prosecco DOC, Asolo Montello Wines and Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG, together with CIA Treviso, Coldiretti Treviso, Confagricoltura Treviso, Confcooperative Treviso and Veneto Lavoro, jointly declare: “This project represents a concrete example of collaboration, whose aim is to create safe and qualified working conditions, offering people new opportunities for inclusion and companies effective tools for finding personnel. In this way, the wine sector confirms its commitment not only to product quality, but also to the social quality of the work that makes it possible.”
