The 2026 activities of the Accademia Italiana della Vite e del Vino resume on May 5 in Rome with the inauguration of the seventy-seventh Academic Year. The event is scheduled at Palazzo Valentini, in the Giorgio Fregosi Hall, marking the start of a new season of discussion on Italian viticulture topics.

With over 500 members including scholars, entrepreneurs, technicians, and communicators, the Academy confirms its position among Italy’s leading institutions dedicated to the wine sector. The day will begin at 10:30 AM with institutional greetings and the president’s report by Rosario Di Lorenzo.

“The inauguration of the Academic Year represents a moment of great significance, not only for the wine sector, but for the entire Italian cultural and productive fabric,” states Rosario Di Lorenzo. “Indeed, this Institution continues to be an essential reference point for enhancing tradition and developing innovation.”

NEW MEMBERS AND DISCUSSION ON CHANGE

The inaugural session will also feature the admission of 42 new corresponding members, in addition to emeritus, honorary, ordinary, and foreign members who will receive their academic diploma. Furthermore, the morning’s central moment will be the keynote address by Piero Mastroberardino titled “Managing Change in the Wine Supply Chain: Structural and Cyclical Profiles,” dedicated to the transformation affecting the wine supply chain.

The meeting aims to provide in-depth analysis of production, economic, and cultural scenarios involving the sector. This phase is marked by new challenges for Italian wine.

PIERO MASTROBERARDINO’S PROFILE

A tenth-generation winegrower, Mastroberardino is a full professor of Business Management at the University of Foggia and author of international scientific publications on management topics.

He combines his academic dimension with entrepreneurial and cultural pursuits. Additionally, he is president of the Istituto del Vino Italiano di Qualità Grandi Marchi, and his background includes activities in drawing, painting, narrative, and poetry.

The inauguration of the new Academic Year thus confirms the Academy’s role as a place of scientific and cultural development for the sector. The event focuses on innovation themes and change management.
