The fires in Gironde and Landes did not affect the Bordeaux vineyards. And, at present, there are no consequences on the quality of the grapes destined for the 2026 harvest. This was announced by the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux (UGCB), which expresses solidarity with the affected communities and thanks all those engaged in fighting the flames.
President François-Xavier Maroteaux and Director Grégory Citerneschi describe the fires as “an ecological and human disaster that strikes at the heart of our region.” The situation, also thanks to the arrival of rain, is progressively improving.
SOLIDARITY FROM THE WINE SECTOR
The UGCB extends its thanks to the firefighters, public authorities, foresters, armed forces, gendarmerie, and Civil Protection. Recognition also extends to the volunteers, farmers, and winegrowers involved in the operations.
Some wine estates have made equipment and resources available, participating directly in the firefighting activities. A mobilization that, according to the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux, confirms the sector’s bond with the territory and local communities.

NO VINEYARDS AFFECTED BY THE FIRES
The organization specifies that no vineyard in Gironde was reached by the flames. Furthermore, no effects on grape quality have been detected up to this point.
The areas affected by the most intense fires are located several kilometers from the vineyards. The UGCB also recalls what happened in 2022, when fires that developed during the same period of the year produced no perceptible consequences on the organoleptic profile of the wines.
BORDEAUX, EARLY 2026 HARVEST
With the gradual stabilization of the emergency, attention now returns to the progress of the wine-growing season. According to initial indications from the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux, the 2026 harvest should begin early and presents favorable quality prospects.
