Introducing Quattro Gatti, a “made in Umbria” gin presented in Milan at The Wilde Club on March 18th. A gin built around the concepts of slowness and conviviality, born from a desire to portray the Italian lifestyle as seen through foreign eyes.

The project was founded by the Mordant family, who are of Australian origin but have been linked to Umbria for over twenty years. Simon and Catriona Mordant, together with their son Angus and his wife Brielle, have translated their personal relationship with the region into a spirit.

QUATTRO GATTI GIN

The brand’s origins lie in summers spent in Umbria and the relationships built around the dinner table. This sparked the idea of translating the spirit of a place and a family setting into a gin. The goal is to use a spirit to tell the story of the Italian lifestyle, centered on shared moments and simple pleasures.

The name refers to a common Italian expression meaning a small, close-knit group. This choice is consistent with the production approach: artisanal craftsmanship, attention to botanicals, and care for detail at every stage. Rooted in the Umbrian territory, the brand aims to bring the region’s identity and the value of unhurried time to the glass.

THE RANGE

The range consists of two expressions: Quattro Gatti Gin Classico and Quattro Gatti Olive Grove Gin. These two labels are intended as a narrative of tradition, family, and territory. Every bottle evokes Umbria, from its rural landscapes and scents of wild herbs to its conviviality.

QUATTRO GATTI GIN CLASSICO

Quattro Gatti Gin Classico (43% ABV) is a dry gin made with hand-picked local botanicals, including broom, coriander, and orange. Umbrian juniper defines the aromatic profile with its classic pungent and resinous notes, without being overpowering.

Fresh citrus scents follow, leading to a floral and herbaceous heart. Soft and enveloping on the palate, it offers a full, warm sip where no single note dominates. Long finish.

QUATTRO GATTI OLIVE GROVE GIN

Quattro Gatti Olive Grove Gin (43% ABV) is created through a distillation process using olive leaves, olives, and olive oil from Italian groves. The result is a gin with a very different character from the Classico—deeper on both the nose and the palate.

Earthy notes reminiscent of the forest floor are followed by a floral heart and a long, velvety finish. The characteristic savory note from the olive is present and defining, yet not overwhelming.

THE DRINKS

Two versions of Quattro Gatti, two classic drinks to showcase them. Quattro Gatti Gin Classico shines in a Negroni.

“If I order a Negroni in Italy—a cocktail of Italian origin made with the most famous Italian bitters and an Italian vermouth—why should I have it served with a London Dry Gin?” Simon Mordant asks ironically. Quattro Gatti Gin Classico stands up well to the Vermouth, adding body and smoothness. A clean, present, and linear Negroni.

Quattro Gatti Olive Grove Gin is perfect for a Dirty Martini. The gin’s savory notes enhance the brine of the Dirty Martini, increasing the perception of saltiness. A flavorful and indulgent drink that takes nothing away from the slow respect that a Martini demands.
