Vermouth di Torino: Bruno Malavasi is the new president of the Consortium

IN BREVE
  • Bruno Malavasi is the new president of the Vermouth di Torino Consortium, elected on October 3.
  • Malavasi succeeds Roberto Bava, who led the Consortium from 2019 to 2025.
  • During Bava’s presidency, the Consortium promoted projects to enhance Vermouth di Torino.
  • The Vermouth di Torino Consortium represents over 90% of Vermouth di Torino production.

Bruno Malavasi is the new president of the Vermouth di Torino Consortium. The election took place on October 3, during the first meeting of the new Board of Directors, renewed last June in Pollenzo on the occasion of the General Assembly of Vermouth di Torino. A professional with long-standing experience in the Campari Group, Malavasi currently holds the role of Master of Botanicals at “Davide Campari Milano”, supporting research and innovation projects in the field of formulations and extracts based on medicinal plants.

He succeeds Roberto Bava, of “Giulio Cocchi”, who led the Consortium from 2019 to 2025, after also serving as the first president of the previous Vermouth di Torino Institute, which later merged into the current Protection Consortium.

A PRESIDENCY MARKED BY CONTINUITY

During Bava’s presidency, the Consortium took numerous steps toward the rebirth of Vermouth di Torino, promoting enhancement and protection projects both in Italy and abroad. Bava decided not to renew his mandate, despite being invited by the members, emphasizing “the importance of rotation to maintain the energy of healthy management”.

However, he accepted the position of vice-president as a sign of continuity and collaboration. Giorgio Castagnotti, Operation Director of “Martini & Rossi”, was also confirmed as vice-president. The Presidency Committee is completed by Paola Facco of Branca/Carpano, Marketing Manager, and Pierstefano Berta, head of the technical-legal group.

WORDS FROM MALAVASI AND BAVA

“I would like to express my thanks to my fellow members for the trust placed in me with my appointment as President of the Vermouth di Torino Consortium, a position I feel sincerely honored to hold,” Malavasi stated. “A further heartfelt thank you goes to the members of the previous Board of Directors and in particular to Roberto Bava and Pierstefano Berta, to whom I believe we all owe a great debt of gratitude for the energy and passion with which they have worked over all these years to found and grow our Consortium and promote the PGI ‘Vermouth di Torino’. Much progress has been made in these years, but I believe there are still many opportunities ahead of us.”

Bava, during the handover, recalled: “Activities continue in the spirit of continuity and also growth. After 8 years, the important phase of birth and youth comes to a close, to enter the adult phase. With the excellent and indispensable director Pierstefano Berta and the outgoing Board of Directors, we leave not only the accounts in order, but a consortium machine ready to lead the denomination towards growth and the complexity of controls and defense of the PGI.”

A DENOMINATION IN CONSTANT GROWTH

Established in 2019, the Vermouth di Torino Consortium brings together multinationals, medium and small producers, and representatives of the aromatic herbs supply chain, covering over 90% of production. Today, the “Vermouth di Torino” Protected Geographical Indication is distributed in 80 countries, with approximately 6 million bottles produced and a constant growth trend in volumes and values.

The new Board of Directors will remain in office for the next three years and is composed of Bruno Malavasi (President), Roberto Bava (Vice-President), Giorgio Castagnotti (Vice-President), Pierstefano Berta, Maria Cristina Castelletta, Paola Facco, Marco Frandini, Roberto Gambardella, Alfredo Sconfienza, Andrea Sperone, and Fabio Torretta.
