The Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG appellation anticipates a positive outcome for the 2025 harvest. A vintage that tested the adaptability and flexibility of winegrowers, as well as the vine itself. The quality profile promises to be interesting, maintaining the recognizable expressive diversity of the Rive. Weather conditions, fluctuating but not extreme, required careful vineyard management. Timely decisions and the producers’ experience proved decisive. In terms of quantity, overall production has returned to pre-2022 levels, marking a return to normalcy after two leaner vintages.

VARIABLE CLIMATE AND BALANCED VINES

The season started promisingly. Between April and May, vineyard activities proceeded normally, despite rainfall slightly above the historical average. June, warm and dry but without water or heat stress, favored good vegetative development. Veraison, which began in late July with cooler temperatures, contributed to aromatic synthesis, particularly of terpenes. The subsequent heat wave around mid-August, followed by heavy rainfall on August 21, slowed early ripening, requiring new assessments from producers.

WINEGROWERS’ EXPERIENCE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Ripening continued more slowly, prompting winegrowers to make prudent choices to preserve grape balance. In many cases, they opted for lower sugar levels, favoring freshness and overall harmony.

“The 2025 harvest was another test for our winegrowers,” commented Diego Tomasi, director of the Consorzio di Tutela. “In the vineyard, they had to draw on experience, knowledge, and sensitivity to choose the right harvest moment. When vintages bring climatic surprises of this kind—and this is now the reality—the winegrower’s expertise makes the difference. To date, we are satisfied to have brought very good grape batches into the cellar, and only in a few cases average ones, testament to the complexity of this season and the winegrowers’ readiness in facing unexpected weather.”

GLERA IN BALANCE BETWEEN FRESHNESS AND MODERATE ALCOHOL

Glera, the appellation’s signature grape variety, confirms lower sugar content in 2025. The result will be wines with moderate alcohol levels, consistent with tradition and current consumption trends. A harvest that promises balanced, fresh, and elegant Prosecco Superiore DOCG, true to the typicity of Conegliano Valdobbiadene.
