From April 26 to 28, Montefalco hosts “A Montefalco“, an initiative promoted by the Consorzio Tutela Vini Montefalco dedicated to national and international press and industry professionals. The event focuses on the currently available vintages of wines produced in the Montefalco and Spoleto denomination territories and on the new vintage of Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG.
The initiative represents an opportunity to explore the wine identity of one of Umbria’s most representative wine territories. The program includes technical tastings, masterclasses, and winery visits, with the aim of offering journalists and professionals an updated overview of local productions.
HEART OF THE EVENT: TASTINGS OF THE TERRITORY’S DENOMINATIONS
The tasting room will be the center of the initiative, where it will be possible to sample the available vintages of the area’s main denominations. These include Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG dry and passito, Montefalco Rosso DOC, Montefalco Rosso Riserva DOC, Montefalco Bianco DOC, Montefalco Grechetto DOC.
Space will also be given to wines from the Spoleto denomination, with Spoleto Trebbiano Spoletino DOC, Spoleto Trebbiano Spoletino Superiore DOC, Spoleto Trebbiano Spoletino Spumante DOC, and Spoleto Trebbiano Spoletino Passito DOC. During the event, the new vintage of Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG, the 2022, will also be presented.
MASTERCLASS AND PRESENTATION OF THE 2022 VINTAGE
Among the scheduled events is a masterclass led by Master of Wine Cristina Mercuri, dedicated to the contemporary interpretation of Montefalco wines and their role in international gastronomy. The session will take place on Monday, April 27 at 6 PM.
On Tuesday, April 28 at 9 AM, at the Complesso Museale San Francesco, the official presentation of the 2022 vintage and the producers participating in the 2026 edition of “A Montefalco” will take place.
The meeting will feature, coordinated by journalist Jacopo Cossater, the mayor of Montefalco Alfredo Gentili, journalist Ian D’Agata, president of the External Commission for vintage evaluation, Paolo Bartoloni, president of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Montefalco, Sandro Camilli, president of AIS Italia, Simona Meloni, agriculture councilor of the Umbria Region, and Stefania Proietti, president of the Umbria Region.
DISCUSSIONS, COMPETITIONS, AND THE ARTIST LABEL
The program also includes moments of discussion dedicated to the territory’s wine culture. Among these is the “Gran Premio del Sagrantino“, a national competition reserved for sommeliers from across Italy. Participants will compete in tastings, pairings, and technical tests related to service and wine lists.
During the event, the Artist Label will also be presented, an artistic work created each year to celebrate the new vintage of Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG. For the 2026 edition, the label dedicated to the 2022 vintage will be unveiled, a project that connects wine, art, and territory.
WINERIES OPEN TO PRESS AND PROFESSIONALS
Alongside the tastings and institutional meetings, the program includes visits to the territory’s wineries. The wineries will open their doors to journalists, restaurateurs, wine shop owners, sommeliers, and industry professionals for in-depth sessions directly at the production sites.
The initiative is organized by the Consorzio Tutela Vini Montefalco with the contribution of CSR Umbria SRG10, with the patronage of the Municipalities of Montefalco and Bevagna and the collaboration of the Strada del Sagrantino.
