Alta Langa DOCG 2025, 3.5 million bottles. Sales exceed 2 million (+10%)

IN BREVE
  • In 2025, 3.5 million bottles of Alta Langa DOCG are produced, marking the expansion of the Piedmontese appellation dedicated to the classic method.
  • The Alta Langa Consortium has 179 members and 500 hectares of vineyards, consolidating a rigorous production model.
  • Alta Langa DOCG sales grow by over 10% compared to 2024, exceeding 2 million bottles sold for the first time.
  • The 2025 harvest is judged excellent, thanks to favorable weather conditions, with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes in excellent condition.
  • Alta Langa DOCG is recognized as Piedmontese Wine of the Year 2025, strengthening its position in the domestic and international markets.

3.5 million bottles potentially eligible for the Alta Langa DOCG appellation were obtained from the 2025 harvest. This figure captures the expansion phase of the Piedmontese appellation dedicated exclusively to the classic method and is accompanied by structural growth in the sector, both in production and market terms.

According to Alta Langa Consortium data, 2025 closes with 179 members including winegrowers and producing companies and 500 hectares of vineyards in total. These numbers confirm the strengthening of the production base and the consolidation of a model based on controlled yields, long aging periods, and one of the most rigorous production regulations in the Italian sparkling wine landscape.

ALTA LANGA DOCG: SALES INCREASE IN 2025

The positive picture is reinforced by commercial performance. During 2025, Alta Langa DOCG sales recorded an increase of over +10% compared to 2024, exceeding for the first time the threshold of 2 million labeled bottles sold. A result that signals growing demand, both in the domestic market and in foreign markets, and an increasingly defined positioning in the premium sparkling wine segment.

2025 ALTA LANGA HARVEST, FAVORABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS

Behind these numbers is a harvest judged by operators as particularly successful. The 2025 harvest began a few days earlier than average, favored by regular spring rains, which ensured good water reserves, and by a summer with steady conditions, a key element for grape health.

The result was a harvest characterized by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in excellent sanitary condition, with balanced ripening and an acidity-aroma ratio considered ideal for producing classic method sparkling wines with long aging on the lees.

ALTA LANGA DOCG CLASSIC METHOD

Alta Langa DOCG is the only Piedmontese appellation entirely dedicated to the production of classic method sparkling wines. The production regulations require a minimum aging on the lees of 30 months for base types and 36 months for Riserva, a choice that directly impacts the complexity, structure, and identity of the wines.

In 2025, Alta Langa DOCG was also chosen as Piedmontese Wine of the Year by the Piedmont Region, an institutional recognition that strengthens the appellation’s role in the strategy for promoting Piedmontese wine at national and international levels.

A TERRITORIAL PROJECT IN EVOLUTION

The appellation was officially established in the early 2000s, but its roots lie in the Piedmontese sparkling wine experiences of the late nineteenth century. The Alta Langa territory includes hilly areas in the provinces of Cuneo, Asti, and Alessandria, characterized by marly-calcareous soils particularly suited for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The combination of favorable soil and climate conditions, production rigor, quality growth, and an increasingly solid consortium structure places Alta Langa DOCG today among the Italian classic method appellations with the greatest dynamism and development prospects.
