ONAV – National Organization of Wine Tasters – becomes a partner of the Master’s in Food and Wine Communication at IULM University in Milan. Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, the association will bring over seventy years of experience in sensory training to the classroom, supporting the program dedicated to wine and food communication.

TASTING LESSONS FOR IULM STUDENTS

ONAV tasters, experts, and instructors will teach lessons within the Master’s modules. The approach will combine scientific analysis of wine’s sensory characteristics with cultural and territorial knowledge.

“By joining IULM, we bring the culture of tasting as a tool for knowledge, communication, and promotion of Italian wine worldwide,” states Vito Intini, ONAV president. “Our mission,” he continues, “is to train knowledgeable tasters, and today we are pleased to also help create communicators capable of describing wine with expertise and sensitivity.”

AN ENRICHED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

The value of the collaboration is emphasized by Vincenzo Russo, director of the Master’s in Food and Wine Communication: “The collaboration with ONAV represents a strategic step for our educational program: students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with professionals who have embodied the culture of tasting for decades, enriching their communication skills with solid technical and sensory foundations.”

Alongside the IULM project, ONAV also supports other initiatives, including SUMAV, the University School for Master Tasters, and wine culture lesson programs for schools.

EMPLOYMENT AND CAREER PROSPECTS

The partnership with the Master’s aims to train professionals capable of communicating about wine and filling roles in marketing, communication, and event organization for companies, consortia, and international organizations. According to AlmaLaurea data (2014-2015/2023-2024 average), 84.4% of graduates find employment within six months, and 43.8% in companies other than those where they completed their curricular internship.

THE CHALLENGE: HYBRID AND INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATORS

The shared goal between IULM and ONAV is to train hybrid, knowledgeable professionals with an international vision. Capable of conveying the value of Italian wine worldwide. Combining the science of tasting with the ability to communicate it thus becomes the key to promoting the national food and wine heritage.
