Edoardo Freddi: “15% Wine Tariffs? It’s Not the End of the World”

The CEO of Edoardo Freddi International proposes allocating part of the PNRR or OCM Wine funds to support exports to the United States. According to the exporter, the tariff represents a serious obstacle, but one that can be overcome with unity and shared strategies among producers, institutions, and importers.

“A 15% tariff is heavy, certainly. But it’s not the end of the world.” That’s how Edoardo Freddi, CEO of Edoardo Freddi International, comments on the latest developments regarding tariffs between the European Union and the United States. The manager, one of the leading exporters of Italian wine globally, urges not to dramatize the situation, while acknowledging the significance of the measure.

According to Freddi, however, timely interventions are needed. “Why not allocate part of the PNRR or OCM Wine funds to an extraordinary plan to support exports to the USA?” he asks. “It would be a strong signal of responsibility and vision.”

EDOARDO FREDDI: APPEAL FOR INDUSTRY UNITY

In his statement, Freddi emphasizes the importance of a shared effort. “Producers, institutions, and importers must stand together,” he states. “We must support those who are in the market—the CEO continues—those who promote and sell Italian wine overseas every day, because without them we wouldn’t exist either.” Freddi urges not to neglect relationships with American clients: “We must stay close to them, now more than ever.”

UNFAVORABLE EXCHANGE RATE AND FUTURE STRATEGIES

Beyond tariffs, the other critical factor identified by Freddi is the currency exchange rate. “It severely penalizes our exports. But it will pass,” he states. His message to the industry is clear: stay united, adapt to the new conditions, double down on efforts. “This is the time to move forward—he concludes—with intelligence and determination.”
