French bubbles aren’t just Champagne, especially during Dry January. Alongside the best-known appellations, there’s a diverse landscape of sparkling wines inspired by the style and production methods of the country’s Northeast. While maintaining a more accessible price positioning. Among these is Brut Dargent, a brand of Jura sparkling wines now also available in the alcohol-free Free line. A brand of the Les Grands Chais de France group.
DRY JANUARY AND THE ALCOHOL-FREE WINE TREND
Dry January continues to influence consumer choices, driving growth in alcohol-free wines also in the sparkling segment. The phenomenon particularly affects European markets, where demand is increasing for alternatives capable of maintaining a recognizable wine identity.
In this context comes Brut Dargent’s Free line, which complements the brand’s traditional production with dealcoholized sparkling wines designed for different consumption.
BRUT DARGENT AND JURA SPARKLING WINES
Brut Dargent is a brand that interprets the Jura exclusively through sparkling wines produced using the traditional method. The base wines are obtained from historic French varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, also accompanied by Merlot. A less common choice for this type. The range is designed to accompany both gastronomic consumption and aperitifs.
BRUT DARGENT FREE CHARDONNAY AND PINOT NOIR ALCOHOL-FREE
Brut Dargent Free Chardonnay comes from a 100% Chardonnay base. In the glass it presents with a pale gold color and golden reflections. The aromatic profile recalls white flowers and citrus. The palate is soft, creamy and supported by good freshness, with a fine perlage.
Brut Dargent Free Pinot Noir, from pure Pinot Noir grapes, is offered in rosé version. On the nose and palate, red fruit notes emerge, with an agile and immediate drinking experience, in line with the fresh and convivial style of the line.
HOW THE DEALCOHOLIZATION OF FREE WINES WORKS
After traditional vinification, the wines in the Free line undergo a dealcoholization process through vacuum distillation with a cone centrifugal column. The process, which requires at least 30 hours, allows alcohol to be removed without heating and without the addition of chemical substances.
The technology adopted preserves the structure and aromatic profile of the wine, avoiding the use of added aromas and maintaining a natural taste.
BRUT DARGENT BLANC DE BLANCS EXTRA BRUT FOR THOSE NOT DOING DRY JANUARY
Alongside the alcohol-free line, Brut Dargent also offers traditional sparkling wines. The Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut, made from pure Chardonnay, presents with a bright straw yellow color and a fine, persistent perlage. On the nose, aromas of ripe fruit and citrus emerge, followed by toasted notes, pastry and chocolate.
The palate is full. Suggested pairings include fish dishes, including raw, Asian cuisine, vegetable-based preparations, savory pies and medium-aged cheeses. The alcohol content is 11.5% vol. The indicative price is around €10, positioning the wine in a competitive range compared to many Champagne labels.
