San Casciano dei Bagni is preparing to showcase its winemaking side with the first edition of “Fonti di Vino – Between wine glasses and thermal waters”, scheduled for Saturday, March 28 at the Casina delle Rose at Fonteverde Resort & Spa. The initiative was created by the Municipality of San Casciano dei Bagni together with nine local wineries, in collaboration with local associations and operators.

The small village in the province of Siena, known for its thermal springs active for over two thousand years and for the recent archaeological discovery of the “Santuario Ritrovato”, aims to highlight a winemaking scene composed of producers with different histories and approaches, yet united by their bond with this border area between Val d’Orcia and Valdichiana.

THE WINERIES OF SAN CASCIANO DEI BAGNI TAKE CENTER STAGE AT THE EVENT

The heart of the event is the local producers. Nine wineries will present their wines at the tasting booths, offering visitors the chance to meet the winemakers directly and learn about the work carried out in the vineyards and wineries of the region.

Among the companies present is Podernuovo a Palazzone, a winery that interprets the territory with a contemporary style and also hosts the Godiluva Wine Resort. Il Poggio represents an organic family project that combines viticulture, livestock farming, a restaurant, and agritourism, with a historic cellar carved into the tuff for aging the wines.

Cantine Ravazzi, with roots dating back to 1956, brings three generations of experience, featuring historic labels and more experimental projects like P64, which combines wine and art. Sassopra works four hectares organically with a biodynamic approach, using spontaneous fermentation and limited production.

Among the local agricultural businesses is Azienda Agricola Gianni Barzi, an organic project started in 2001 at Podere Bulgherino, where vineyards, olive groves, and agricultural crops coexist. SANCABA, born from an intuition of Carlo Franchetti, focuses instead on Pinot Noir grown on galestro and limestone soils at high altitudes.

The Cantina Giacomo Mori represents the historical memory of local wine, with roots at the end of the 19th century and production concentrated on Chianti and Castelrotto. Giacomo Baraldo Vigneron brings a craft approach developed after international experiences, while Tenuta Le Forconate, owned by the Barbanera family, is the largest winery in the area with over 26 hectares of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Vermentino.

MASTERCLASSES AND GUIDED TASTINGS WITH FIS TOSCANA

The day’s program includes three masterclasses led by tasters from FIS Toscana, scheduled for 11:30 AM, 2:30 PM, and 5:30 PM. The sessions will be dedicated to in-depth study of grape varieties, the organoleptic characteristics of the wines, and the production peculiarities of the area, with paths designed for both industry professionals and enthusiasts.

Alongside the tasting booths, it will also be possible to taste local products offered by Azienda Agricola Il Poggio, while Filo & Fibra and the Slow Food Community will present dishes prepared with the Cassetta di Cottura di San Casciano dei Bagni, an ancient slow-cooking method linked to the local gastronomic tradition.

During the weekend, wines from the participating wineries will also be offered in the municipality’s restaurants, with the aim of strengthening the link between wine production and local cuisine.

FONTI DI VINO 2026: BETWEEN WINE TOURISM, THERMAL BATHS, AND ARCHAEOLOGY

The event on March 28 represents the central moment of a weekend dedicated to discovering the region. By reservation, it will be possible to visit the wineries and meet the producers directly in the vineyards.

Side activities also include guided tours of the “Santuario Ritrovato” excavation, the archaeological site that between 2021 and 2023 yielded over 5,000 Etruscan and Roman bronze artifacts, considered one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of recent decades in Europe.

The Fonteverde thermal baths will offer a special rate to event participants, while the program also includes horseback rides in the surrounding landscape, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 AM and 4:00 PM.

The initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Strada del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano e dei Sapori della Valdichiana Senese, a partner that brings its experience in the integrated promotion of wine, gastronomy, and tourism in one of Tuscany’s most recognized food and wine districts.
