Three days dedicated to Derthona Timorasso. Derthona Due.Zero returns on Saturday, March 28, Sunday, March 29, and Monday, March 30, 2026, for the sixth edition of the preview organized by the Consorzio Tutela Vini Colli Tortonesi. The event will take place in Tortona and will be open to the public on the first two days, while Monday will be reserved for industry professionals.
Over 50 producers will present the new 2024 vintages and the 2023 Riservas of Derthona Timorasso, the flagship wine of the Colli Tortonesi, for tasting. The tasting counter will be set up at the Orsi Museum, a historic exhibition space in the Piedmontese city. Two masterclasses are also scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at 4:00 PM, dedicated to exploring the grape variety and its aging potential.
STEADY GROWTH FOR DERTHONA TIMORASSO
“We are among the few Italian denominations that, in recent years, despite a difficult context for the sector, have recorded steady growth in terms of both volume and sales,” comments Gian Paolo Repetto, president of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Colli Tortonesi. “A success that we largely owe to Derthona Timorasso, a wine increasingly recognized and appreciated for its identity and quality. For this reason, promotion becomes fundamental, and this year we have again chosen to confirm the three-day format for our event.”
Timorasso has been cultivated in the Colli Tortonesi since the Middle Ages. The area is distinguished by a complex landscape, with hills crossing six valleys—Ossona, Grue, Curone, Scrivia, Borbera, and Spinti—and compact clay soils composed of blue marl, the same that characterizes the ridge stretching from Barolo to Tuscany.
FROM THE REVIVAL OF THE EIGHTIES TO TODAY
The revival of Timorasso dates back to the late 1980s thanks to a group of local winemakers, including Walter Massa, Andrea Mutti, and Paolo Poggio, who relaunched its cultivation. In 2009, there were 25 hectares of vineyards. In 2025, they exceeded 500.
Production reached 1,700,000 bottles in 2025, roughly double that of 2024—a vintage penalized by downy mildew—and in any case higher than the historical average of about one million bottles. Net of the issues related to individual harvests, growth has been steady. The average price of grapes has remained almost stable.
DERTHONA AND EXPORTS
Derthona Timorasso is now also present on foreign markets. “About 50% of production is now destined for export,” continues the Consortium president. “The United States, Canada, and Northern European countries are consolidated markets, but demand is also expanding significantly toward new destinations, including South Korea, Australia, and Japan.”
The event is part of the cooperation project “L’Isola dei Bianchi del Piemonte: la sua filiera,” aimed at developing a multi-product short supply chain model to enhance the excellence of the Colli Tortonesi. In addition to wines, local products will be presented, such as cured meats, Salame Nobile del Giarolo, Ortolana Derthona and vegetable preserves, cheeses and Montebore, Volpedo peaches with jams and marmalades, and Garbagna strawberries and cherries. A territorial basket designed to promote an integrated and recognizable offering at regional and national levels.
