The shareholders’ meeting of the Barbera d’Asti e Vini del Monferrato Consortium has elected the new Board of Directors. Eighteen directors were confirmed, joined by 7 new entities. This renewal aims to strengthen the growth path of the denomination. Filippo Mobrici, from the Bersano winery, has been appointed to lead the Consortium. This choice signals continuity with the work carried out in recent years to consolidate the identity of Barbera and Monferrato wines on national and international markets.

“Taking the lead of the Consortium at this time is a source of great satisfaction and responsibility for me,” comments the newly elected President Filippo Mobrici. “In recent years, the sector has had to deal with a particularly dynamic scenario, characterized by continuous changes and new competitive challenges. Precisely for this reason, our commitment will be to continue the work already started, consolidating established relationships while looking at emerging markets, which are increasingly interested in wines capable of combining quality, identity, and immediacy.”

“On this journey, we take up the baton left by my predecessor Vitaliano Maccario, whom I thank for strengthening the dialogue with national and international stakeholders and for the work done during a particularly complex three-year period. We do so with an eye also toward the important milestone of the Consortium’s eightieth anniversary—an anniversary that represents not just a celebration, but the result of a long shared history and a path built together with the local producers.”

NEW GOVERNANCE AND STRATEGIC GUIDELINES

Supporting the President will be vice presidents Lorenzo Giordano, from the Vinchio and Vaglio Serra social winery, and Giorgio Gozzelino from Cascina Castlet.

“Barbera d’Asti has all the characteristics to speak to a contemporary audience: it is a wine with a strong identity but at the same time immediate, capable of being authentic and accessible,” states Vice President Lorenzo Giordano. “Our goal is to continue to present it as an increasingly ‘pop’ wine—recognizable and close to consumers, capable of uniting quality, versatility, and conviviality. A language that allows Barbera to engage with new generations of wine lovers and increasingly dynamic markets.”

“The value of Barbera d’Asti and Monferrato wines stems primarily from the daily work of the producers and the deep bond with a unique territory, made of hills, soils, and winemaking traditions that have defined its identity for generations,” emphasizes Vice President Giorgio Gozzelino. “Our commitment will be to further strengthen the teamwork between producers, institutions, and the supply chain, so that these denominations can continue to be credible ambassadors of Monferrato in the world and convey the value of a territory that finds one of its highest expressions in viticulture.”

TOWARD VINITALY AND THE CONSORTIUM’S 80TH ANNIVERSARY

The new Board is now preparing for upcoming events, starting with Vinitaly, with the aim of consolidating Barbera d’Asti’s market positioning and intercepting new opportunities in emerging countries. Also on the horizon is the Consortium’s eightieth anniversary, an opportunity to highlight a shared history and relaunch the role of Monferrato in the winemaking landscape.
