Angelini Wines & Estates acquires a majority stake in Arnaldo Caprai, the historic Umbrian winery that symbolizes Sagrantino di Montefalco. The operation marks a significant step in the consolidation of Italian wine in the premium-luxury segment.

The agreement announced today, April 1, 2026, aims to strengthen the international presence of the Angelini group in the fine wines sector, integrating one of the most recognizable brands in Italian winemaking into its portfolio.

ANGELINI WINES & ESTATES STRENGTHENS ITS PREMIUM PORTFOLIO WITH CAPRAI

Angelini Wines & Estates, part of the Angelini Industries group, is thus expanding its presence in high-end wine. The group has six wineries, approximately 1,700 total hectares (460 of which are under vine), and an annual production of about 4 million bottles.

Existing brands include Bertani in Valpolicella, a benchmark for Amarone Classico; Val di Suga in Montalcino, with its Brunello from three slopes; and Cantina Puiatti in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, specializing in white wines and Metodo Classico. The addition of Arnaldo Caprai fits into a declared strategy: long-term investments, enhancement of local territories, and strengthening in international markets.

THE ROLE OF ARNALDO CAPRAI IN SAGRANTINO DI MONTEFALCO

Founded in 1971, Arnaldo Caprai is considered the winery that brought Sagrantino di Montefalco back to the center of the international wine scene. Under the leadership of Marco Caprai, the company has carried out pioneering work on the clonal selection of the grape variety, characterized by a high polyphenolic concentration.

The stylistic evolution, also through the use of barriques, has made Sagrantino more accessible while maintaining its structure and aging potential. In 1993, Montefalco Sagrantino 25 Anni was born, a label that contributed to the international acclaim of the denomination. In recent years, the company was supported by oenologist Michel Rolland, who passed away recently, in the same year that Marco’s father, Arnaldo, passed away.

MANAGEMENT CONTINUITY WITH MARCO CAPRAI

Marco Caprai retains the role of Chairman and CEO of the winery. Management continuity is one of the key elements of the operation. Over time, Caprai has also linked his name to the development of wine tourism in Montefalco and integrated sustainability projects, contributing to the transformation of the Umbrian territory into a leading wine destination.

ANGELINI INDUSTRIES: THE INDUSTRIAL CONTEXT

Angelini Wines & Estates is part of Angelini Industries, a multinational group founded in 1919, active in 21 countries with approximately 5,600 employees and a turnover of 1.6 billion euros. The addition of Arnaldo Caprai strengthens the group’s presence in wine, alongside the health, industrial technology, and consumer goods sectors, in a strategy oriented towards growth and sustainability.

A STRATEGIC OPERATION FOR ITALIAN WINE

The acquisition represents a significant step in the aggregation process of high-end Italian wine. The integration between a structured industrial group and a winery that symbolizes a territory strengthens the international positioning of Sagrantino di Montefalco. The operation was handled by Paolo Pietrostefani (Pietrostefani Corporate), Alberto Calvi Coenzo (Avvocatidiimpresa), and Alberto Bezzetto (CDR Advisory), together with CEO Alberto Lusini.

ANGELINI WINES & ESTATES

Angelini Wines & Estates is the wine business unit of Angelini Industries, an Italian family-led industrial group active internationally, which has built a high-end wine hub through targeted acquisitions and the enhancement of local territories. Born from the evolution of Tenimenti Angelini and relaunched in 2022 under its current name, the group brings together various Italian winemaking entities across Tuscany, Veneto, Marche, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Umbria.

These include Bertani in Valpolicella, Val di Suga in Montalcino, Tenuta Trerose in Montepulciano, San Leonino in Chianti Classico, Fazi Battaglia in Marche, Cantina Puiatti in Friuli, and, with the announced operation, Arnaldo Caprai in Montefalco. The strategy focuses on identity-driven wines linked to their denominations, sustainable growth, and international development, integrating industrial vision with agricultural culture.
