La Prima dell’Alta Langa 2026 will not be held in Turin as usual. In fact, it will not be held at all. This was decided by the Board of Directors of the Consorzio Alta Langa Docg, elected in May 2025. This decision marks a shift from the direction taken until last year by the previous Board led by Mariacristina Castelletta (Tosti1820). The measure effectively coincides with the change of leadership at the top of the Alta Langa Consortium, which sees Giovanni Minetti (Tenuta Carretta) as the new president, supported by Gianmario Cerutti (Coppo) as vice-president.
L’ALTA LANGA A ROMA 2026 CONFIRMED, FOLLOWING THE NEW YORK EVENT
On one hand, there will be no Prima dell’Alta Langa 2026 (which would have been the 8th edition). On the other, there is a clear pivot abroad, also explained by the increase in production that will allow Piedmontese wineries to better introduce themselves to international markets. The Alta Langa Consortium has confirmed to Winemag the organization of a promotional initiative in New York at the beginning of March 2026. Two months later, in May, producers will present a united front at L’Alta Langa a Roma 2026.
This is a new edition of an event that, last year, saw more than 700 accredited guests at the Spazio Field in Palazzo Brancaccio, including Horeca operators and press. However, the first annual opportunity to experience the “High Piedmontese Bubbles” is at the OGR in Turin, during Grandi Langhe 2026. Participating will be 67 producer members of the Consortium, with 102 cuvées.
ALTA LANGA RISERVA MOVING TOWARD 60 MONTHS MINIMUM AGING
Meanwhile, the Consortium is also taking action regarding the denomination’s regulations, which are already very strict. The amendment to the production specifications has already been approved, which will bring Alta Langa Docg Riserva from a minimum of 36 to a minimum of 60 months on the lees before being released to the market. This is a way to better distinguish the types, as Alta Langa and Alta Langa Riserva are currently separated by only 6 months of minimum aging: 30 months versus 36.
