The images from recent days will remain etched in the memory of Collio for a long time. The incessant rain, the landslides, the homes swept away, the devastated vineyards, the destroyed roads. A single night was enough to shatter an entire region. The president of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Collio, Luca Raccaro, describes the situation with clarity and emotion. And he is fighting back, together with the rest of the board and members, by opening a bank account to collect funds for disaster relief.

“The damage is disastrous. In one night,” he notes, “300 mm of rain fell, about a fifth of the rainfall for an entire year. The hardest-hit areas were the municipalities of Cormons and Dolegna del Collio. In the former, the hamlet of Brazzano was partially overwhelmed by a massive landslide that knocked down several homes and unfortunately caused two fatalities.”

Two companies were completely evacuated and, in particular, one of these—being involved in the mountain’s collapse—reported extensive damage to both the home and the winery. There was also significant damage to the vineyards, between landslides and flooding caused by the enormous volume of water pouring into the ditches.

COLLIO FIGHTS BACK AFTER RAINS AND LANDSLIDES IN THE VINEYARDS

The flooding of the Judrio river caused numerous wineries and homes to flood, especially in the municipality of Dolegna. Here, some vineyards were swept away and completely destroyed. To date, many roads remain closed due to damage caused by landslides.

“While these events remind us how powerless man is against the forces of nature,” adds Luca Raccaro, “on the other hand, they bring us closer together. There have been many expressions of affection and closeness from those who experienced the situation firsthand, but also from those on the other side of the world. And this, despite the trauma, gives us hope for tomorrow.”

Faced with the consequences of the wave of severe weather, the Consorzio Tutela Vini Collio chose to intervene immediately with a concrete gesture. A bank account dedicated to the disaster has been opened, intended for the direct support of companies and families who have lost vineyards, work, and, in some cases, even their homes. The goal is to offer immediate and transparent aid, entirely destined for the most affected entities.

ENJOY COLLIO CONFIRMED FOR DECEMBER 13 AT ATTEMS

In a context marked by damage and loss, a light remains on for a traditional local appointment: the EnJoy Collio Experience on December 13 at Villa Attems. An event that this year takes on a different meaning.

“On December 13,” explains director Lavinia Zamaro, “we will gather for the EnJoy Collio Experience, and it will be a different moment than in other years. It will be a way to look each other in the eye, to hold each other close, to make our closeness felt by those who have lived through difficult days. We feel a strong need to create a space where Collio can breathe together, find strength again, and remember that, even in the hardest trials, we are a united community. We want this evening to be a gesture of hope.”
