Etna DOC continues to grow. Official data shows an increase of 6.7% compared to 2024, a result that confirms the denomination’s consolidation on the market. This growth particularly affects white wines and sparkling wines, while reds show a decline that the Consorzio suggests viewing from a broader perspective. The president of the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Etna DOC, Francesco Cambria, interprets the data as a sign of the Etna system’s maturity. “Our strength lies in having built a system over time based on quality and reputation, sustainability, and a shared strategy.”
PRODUCTION FIGURES
The overall increase is driven by whites and sparkling wines, categories showing a positive trend. The picture is different for reds, which recorded a decline. According to the Consorzio, this figure does not indicate a structural weakness in the denomination but responds to specific agricultural dynamics. The director of the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Etna DOC, Maurizio Lunetta, calls for the numbers to be put into context. “The temporary decline of Etna Rosso is linked to contingent agricultural factors, while the rise of Etna Bianco is also supported by new plantings coming into production. With the upcoming 2025 harvest data, we expect a recovery for the Rosso.”
MEDIUM-TO-LONG-TERM PROSPECTS
The Consorzio is therefore looking to the coming years with a cautious but confident approach. New vineyards coming into production are strengthening the growth of whites, while for Etna Rosso, attention is focused on future harvests, which could rebalance the production landscape. The overall figure of +6.7% reinforces Etna DOC’s positioning as a structured denomination, capable of navigating fluctuating phases without compromising its identity.
