The 2025 harvest at Maison Perrier-Jouët is distinguished by an unusually rapid vegetative cycle. Stable spring conditions allowed for flowering between late May and early June, followed by a ripening period of just 81 days. This rhythm was much faster than the usual hundred days or so, requiring flexible harvest management. Picking began on August 21 with Pinot Noir in Ambonnay and Meunier in Dizy, continuing from August 24 with Chardonnay in Avize and Cramant. The health of the grapes was excellent across all plots.
2025 HARVEST: AN UNPRECEDENTED SEASON
The dynamism of the season required quick decisions and continuous adaptation. The clusters were rich and balanced, the result of a bright and warm vintage. Plots managed under regenerative viticulture played a decisive role, showing a slightly lower initial potential alcohol content compared to conventionally managed vineyards. Increased biomass and cover crops kept the soils cooler and moister during the hottest periods.
REGENERATIVE VITICULTURE: THE MAISON’S APPROACH
Introduced in 2021, the Maison’s regenerative viticulture aims to involve 100% of the vineyards by 2030. The goal is to regenerate soils, increase biodiversity and resilience, and reduce carbon emissions, ensuring continuity for the floral and complex style of Perrier-Jouët champagnes. The regenerative plots were vinified separately in the new cellar, designed to meet the needs of future viticulture.
Initial analyses show balanced musts in the Grands Crus. In the Côte des Blancs, Chardonnay recorded 10.9% potential alcohol, pH 3.10, and total acidity of 7.1 g/L. Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru villages of the Montagne de Reims shows 11.3% potential alcohol, pH 3.9, and total acidity of 6.9 g/L.
AROMATIC PROFILES AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS
“The 2025 Chardonnays, the Maison’s signature grape variety, reveal elegant notes of white peach and apricot. The Pinot Noirs show aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, and strawberry, while the Meuniers express nuances of juicy Williams pear and yellow peach. The musts are generous, silky, and harmonious,” says Séverine Frerson, Chef de Caves.
THE CHEF DE CAVES’ VISION
“Unprecedented. Rhythm. Wonder! The 2025 harvest is truly unprecedented, marked by an extraordinary ripening rhythm. It required reactivity, agility, and a deep connection with nature. It is too early to predict the final expression of this vintage, but we welcome the harvest that nature has given us with humility and wonder, to create champagnes faithful to the floral and complex style of Maison Perrier-Jouët,” concludes Séverine Frerson.
