On Monday, September 8, Serralunga Day 2025 took place, an event now in its fourth edition, launched in 2022 on the initiative of Barolo producers from the Municipality of Serralunga d’Alba. The event, sponsored by the Barolo and Barbaresco Consortium, aims to promote the municipal designation through moments of discussion and tasting, open to critics, press, and restaurateurs.

This year the initiative featured the special participation of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium, which brought a delegation of producers to Piedmont. A meeting that brought into dialogue two of the most internationally recognized Italian denominations, united by values such as tradition, identity, longevity, and elegance.

THE PREVIEW OF BAROLO 2022

At Fontanafredda, 26 producers from Serralunga d’Alba gathered to preview the 2022 vintage of Barolo. The blind tasting was led by Gabriele Gorelli, Italy’s first Master of Wine, together with Michaela Morris, wine writer and judge, and Justin Knock, Australian Master of Wine, alongside Alessandro Masnaghetti.

The day also introduced some new features, such as the launch of a study on the Serralunga d’Alba territory. International Wine Clubs were also involved, including The Dutch Wine Apprentice (Netherlands), Vlaamse Wijngilde (Belgium), and AIS Belgium and Luxembourg. During Serralunga Days 2025, the “SF Serralunga” glass designed by master glassmakers Eisch Glass was also presented.

VINTAGE COMMENTARY AND INSTITUTIONAL PRESENCE

In the afternoon, a jury composed of Italian and foreign press, Masters of Wine, and Barolo and Brunello producers drafted the Portrait of the 2022 vintage, titled “Barolo Serralunga d’Alba 2022, the exception that proves the rule.”

Among the institutional speakers was Sergio Germano, president of the Barolo and Barbaresco Protection Consortium. “We are thrilled with the success of the event,” he stated, “which has now reached its fourth edition, further confirming the importance of Serralunga and its producers in territorial expression.”

Making its debut was the participation of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium, with president Giacomo Bartolommei. “Being present at Serralunga Day 2025,” he explained, “represents for us not only an honor, but also a valuable opportunity for comparison and dialogue between two denominations that share common values.”

ONLY MAGNUMS AT THE GALA DINNER

A dedicated moment was reserved for restaurateurs from Alba, Langhe, and Roero, who were the protagonists of the portfolio tasting together with 20 Brunello di Montalcino producers. The event concluded with the Gala Dinner “Serralunga meets Montalcino. In magnum,” open to the public. Twenty-six labels of Barolo 2021 and 20 labels of Brunello 2020 were served, strictly in magnum format. The proceeds were donated to La Collina degli Elfi in Govone, an association committed to supporting families with children who have faced oncological diseases.
