Lugana: 2025 harvest of high quality and growing sustainability

IN BREVE
  • The 2025 harvest of Lugana DOC shows excellent vineyard health and a commitment to sustainable viticulture.
  • The grapes ripened early but slowed down due to heavy September rains.
  • The wine quality promises freshness and longevity, despite moderately lower than average production.
  • 87% of vineyard surfaces are certified according to sustainability standards, an increase from 2024.

The 2025 harvest of Lugana DOC has concluded, confirming the excellent health of the Lake Garda vineyard and an increasingly widespread commitment to sustainable viticulture. Compared to recent vintages, grape ripening was about ten days early until the end of August, then slowed due to heavy late-summer rains. A hot, dry June accelerated phenological phases, while a cooler July and stable, sunny August favored an ideal balance between sugars and acidity.

The pH remained in line with the average of recent harvests and the acidity, slightly higher, heralds fresh, savory, and long-lived wines. The grape quantity was moderately lower than average due to reduced spring fertility, a condition that favored uniform ripening and consistent quality.

CAREFUL HARVEST MANAGEMENT AND CONSISTENT QUALITY

The heavy rains of September, approximately 160 millimeters total, required great attention in vineyard management. Producers carefully selected the parcels and grapes destined for the different types of Lugana, protecting the health and quality of the harvest. The last grapes for the Superiore and Riserva versions were harvested just a few days ago. The result is a vintage that promises to be of high quality, with intense aromas and excellent acid balance, supported by the cooler September temperatures.

LUGANA INCREASINGLY SUSTAINABLE: 87% OF VINEYARDS CERTIFIED

Alongside the results in the vineyard, environmental awareness in the territory is growing. In 2025, the vineyard surfaces of Lugana DOC certified according to sustainability standards (SQNPI, Equalitas, and Organic) reached 87% of total hectares. Equal to 2,313 out of 2,669, a significant increase from 2024.

“Lugana confirms itself as a cutting-edge territory, capable of combining wine quality with vineyard ecosystem – comments Fabio Zenato, president of the Consorzio Tutela Lugana DOC –. The wineries demonstrated great attention in the vineyard during a challenging season, managing the harvest phases with expertise and maintaining the highest quality standards. The strong increase in sustainability certifications demonstrates collective maturity. Today, nearly nine out of ten hectares in our territory operate according to recognized and certified environmental standards.”

QUALITY AND RESPONSIBILITY AS THE KEY TO THE FUTURE

The 2025 harvest of Lugana DOC delivers a clear message: quality and sustainability grow together, strengthening the identity of a territory that continues to stand out for seriousness and production consistency.
