Vendemmia 2025 in Maremma Toscana si apre la stagione sotto i migliori auspici

2025 Harvest: The Season Opens in Maremma Toscana Under the Best Auspices

+4% bottled in the first seven months of 2025 despite concerns over US tariffs

The harvest has begun in Maremma Toscana. A vintage that promises to be one of the most promising in recent years. The grapes have ripened regularly and optimally, thanks to ideal climatic conditions and the absence of thermal or water stress episodes. The dry weather and consistent temperature variation of recent days are contributing to create a perfect scenario for a high-quality harvest. At present, no weather alerts have been recorded.

THE 2025 VINTAGE

Particularly positive is the evolution of aromatic synthesis, which suggests a production of Vermentinos of the highest quality, if climatic conditions remain favorable. The sanitary condition of the grapes remains optimal throughout the territory.

Harvest timing is perfectly in line with 2024. Picking began in the week before Ferragosto, starting with the earliest varieties such as Chardonnay, Viognier and subsequently Merlot, and, of course, those destined for sparkling wine bases and rosés.
On the quantitative front, an abundant production is expected, with the exception of some varieties more sensitive to downy mildew, which suffered even significant attacks during the rainy month of May.

THE DENOMINATION’S TREND

According to the latest AVITO data, the denomination confirms a positive trend with a +4% in bottled wine in the first seven months of 2025. A result once again bucking the regional trend, which has shown a slight 3% decline since the beginning of the year. An encouraging sign for the territory, which continues to grow both in terms of recognition and trust, albeit in a very complicated moment for the market.

Regarding the delicate situation related to US tariffs, the Consortium president, Francesco Mazzei, reiterates its seriousness. “If tariffs were really to remain at 15%, it would be a serious problem for our sector and would represent a total failure of political negotiations. Italy would come out of it very badly. Fortunately, for denomination wines such as DOC and IGP, negotiations are still open and we hope they will lead to better results. It is essential that this situation of uncertainty be resolved as soon as possible: the market needs stability to be able to plan and grow.”
