The Comité Champagne has set the marketable grape quantity at 9,000 kg per hectare for the 2025-2026 harvest campaign. A decision aimed at reducing excess wine remaining in cellars. Surplus quantities may be allocated to reserves, within established limits.
The Comité interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne has set the supply level at 9,000 kilograms per hectare for the 2025-2026 harvest campaign. This was established by a decision published on July 23, 2025, signed by the two co-presidents David Chatillon and Maxime Toubart.
The measure aims to ensure supply security and stability, in a context of excess inventory. As of July 31, 2025, the supply chain stock ratio reached 4.8 years. A threshold deemed no longer compatible with the functioning of the Champenois economic model.
GRADUAL PATH TOWARD A SUSTAINABLE LEVEL
The Comité Champagne has therefore decided to initiate a destocking process. The goal is to bring the ratio back to 4.2 years in upcoming campaigns. Once this level is reached, the model will once again be effective for all sector operators.
In the same decision, the Comité specifies that quantities harvested beyond 9,000 kg/ha may be placed in reserve. All in compliance with two limits: the butoir yield (maximum authorized per hectare) and the individual reserve ceiling.
CIRCULARS AND PENALTIES FOR THOSE EXCEEDING CHAMPAGNE YIELDS 2025-2026
The implementation procedures for the decision will be defined in specific operational circulars. The document also specifies that, in case of non-compliance with mandatory provisions, penalties provided by the law of April 12, 1941, establishing the Comité interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne, may be applied.
The measure fits within the regulatory framework of AOC Champagne and European regulations, as well as in the context of previous decisions, including those on reserves (no. 192/2022) and on contracts between sellers and buyers of grapes, musts, and wines (no. 196/2023).
