Piedmontese producers define it as &#8220;a decisive step for the future of the denomination.&#8221; Currently, protection and promotion are jointly entrusted to the <strong>Consorzio della Barbera d&#8217;Asti e dei Vini del Monferrato<\/strong> and the <strong>Nizza Producers Association<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA strategic choice\u2014we learn\u2014matured unanimously by the producers, with the aim of giving more strength and authority to a young Docg that is already recognized and appreciated nationally and internationally.\u201d <strong>The Nizza Producers Association, founded in 2002, now has 95 members<\/strong>. Its mission is the promotion of wines produced in the <strong>18 municipalities around Nizza Monferrato<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-1f8386d0\"><h5 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>STEFANO CHIARLO: &#8220;NIZZA DOCG CONSORTIUM, A HISTORIC MOMENT&#8221;<\/strong><\/h5><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis,\u201d declares <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winemag.it\/nizza-docg-stefano-chiarlo-confermato-presidente-gioiello-monferrato\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Stefano Chiarlo<\/strong>, president of the Nizza Producers Association<\/a>, \u201cis a historic moment for all of us. In just over twenty years, we have gone from being a small group of pioneers to an association that today brings together nearly one hundred producers. <strong>Together, we have built a strong and ambitious identity<\/strong>, sharing vision and sacrifices. The birth of the Nizza Docg Consortium would allow us to take <strong>a further step in growth and responsibility<\/strong>.\u201d   <\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-94b465e8\"><h5 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">THE <strong>TIMELINE: FROM THE FIRST TASTINGS TO THE DOCG<\/strong><\/h5><\/div>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The 1990s \u2013 The origins of the dialogue<\/strong><br\/>In the 1990s, groups of local winegrowers began \u201cblind\u201d tastings of their Barbera, often in the cellars of Palazzo Crova in Nizza Monferrato, with the goal of comparing notes and bringing out distinctive territorial characteristics. During these evenings, led by host Tullio Mussa, the foundations of a collective identity were laid. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>2000 \u2013 The \u201cNizza\u201d sub-zone within Barbera d\u2019Asti<\/strong><br\/>On October 13, 2000, a decree was issued recognizing \u201cNizza\u201d as a sub-zone of Barbera d\u2019Asti (for the Superiore typology). The first vinifications destined for the \u201cBarbera d\u2019Asti \u2013 Nizza\u201d label began with that harvest. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>2002 \u2013 Founding of the Nizza Producers Association<\/strong><br\/>On November 19, 2002, the Association was formally established with the intent of safeguarding and promoting local Barbera in the Nizza wine district.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>2008 \u2013 Barbera d&#8217;Asti becomes a Docg and the Nizza sub-zone benefits<\/strong><br\/>In 2008, Barbera d&#8217;Asti obtained Docg status. The Nizza sub-zone benefited from increased visibility and stricter regulations within the new status.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coppo.com\/nizza-docg-il-super-barbera\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Coppo+1<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>2014 \u2013 Autonomy of the Nizza Docg denomination<\/strong><br\/>After proposals and negotiations for autonomous production regulations, official recognition of Nizza Docg arrived in 2014. Effective July 1, 2016, the first vintage (the 2014 harvest) entered the market with the name Nizza on the label. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-034192fe\"><h5 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>PROMOTIONAL STRATEGIES FOR NIZZA DOCG, TOWARDS AN AUTONOMOUS CONSORTIUM<\/strong><\/h5><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the new regulations, Nizza becomes <strong>100% Barbera<\/strong>, does not allow enrichment in difficult vintages, and includes the \u201cRiserva\u201d designation with a minimum aging of 30 months, of which at least 12 must be in wood. It is also possible to indicate<strong> the \u201cVigna\u201d (vineyard) of origin<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recent years, the Association has established a tradition: blind tastings of new vintages among producers and enologists to stimulate cohesion and raise the average quality standards of Nizza Docg. <strong>Sales of Nizza Docg recorded a +5% increase in 2024<\/strong>, with over 1.09 million bottles sold and an estimated turnover of 30 million euros.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-yoast-seo-related-links yoast-seo-related-links\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winemag.it\/il-nizza-e-2022-terza-edizione-al-palazzo-del-gusto-di-nizza-monferrato\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Il Nizza \u00e8 2022: third edition at the Palazzo del Gusto in Nizza Monferrato<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winemag.it\/nizza-docg-mappa-cru-verso-milione-bottiglie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nizza Docg: the cru map, towards one million bottles<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winemag.it\/30-migliori-barbera-d-asti-alba-monferrato-nizza-rosso-barbera-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The 30 best Barbera d&#8217;Asti, Alba, Monferrato, and Nizza wines at Rosso Barbera 2023<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winemag.it\/nizza-docg-successo-filiera-bottiglie-valore-scaffale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nizza Docg, a supply chain success: bottle numbers and shelf value grow<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winemag.it\/vendemmia-2022-nizza-docg-come-il-douro-gradazioni-non-esasperate-ed-equilibrio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2022 Harvest, Nizza Docg like the Douro: &#8220;Balanced alcohol levels and equilibrium&#8221;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-27510478\"><h5 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>VINEYARD VALUE AND AVERAGE PRICES HIGHER THAN THE VARIETAL AVERAGE: THE NIZZA SYSTEM WORKS<\/strong><\/h5><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nizza Docg has attracted the interest of national and international observers not only for the quality of production but also for the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winemag.it\/nizza-docg-successo-filiera-bottiglie-valore-scaffale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">value of the vineyards, which has grown over time<\/a><\/strong>. This was certified by Valoritalia in 2020. At the same time, the area has become increasingly attractive for foreign food and wine tourism.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another aspect not to be underestimated, which will certainly be one of the banners of the promised Nizza Docg Consortium, is the profitability of production.
